The remains of a 6-year-old girl who disappeared almost half a decade ago from her own room while sleeping, were located by the authorities, marking the end of a stage in a case that shook the state of Arizona and unleashed one of the searches for the largest missing person in the region.
"Earlier this month, human remains were discovered in a remote area of Pima County," Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus told a news conference to report the finding. "A portion of those remains were sent to an out-of-state laboratory for independent analysis."
Studies confirmed that the remains belonged to little Isabel Celis, who disappeared from her home on April 21, 2012. “Cases like this are taken extremely seriously, it is a traumatic case for family and friends but also for all family,”said Magnus.
Police did not reveal what led them to the girl's remains, nor did they detail whether there are arrest warrants for any suspects in the case.
The parents of the minor, Rebecca and Sergio Celis, who during these five years spent tirelessly finding their daughter, sent a statement through the Tucson Medical Center, where the mother works as a nurse, to request privacy for the family because of the mourning that they keep now.
