A New Jersey state substitute teacher faces allegations of sexually abusing one of her middle school students in Elizabeth City.

According to a report shared by People magazine's online site, 27-year-old Nataly López is now facing multiple charges of aggravated sexual assault and putting a child's integrity at risk.

Data revealed by the authorities in charge of the investigation determined that the teacher had had sexual relations with the minor, whose identity or age has not been revealed, on at least two occasions. The young man and López exchanged explicit sexual messages for weeks.

The teacher allegedly pleaded not guilty last Friday to the charges for which she was detained on June 22 at her residence. Following her arrest, López remains in the Union County Jail.

In remarks shared through the New Jersey state governor's website, Elizabeth's superintendent of schools, Olga Hugelmeyer, said that as soon as the district learned of the allegations against López, they restricted their entry to any school..

The Associated Press clarified in an additional report that the defendant did not work directly with the school and was hired through a company called Source4Teachers, which supplies substitute teachers to the district when needed.

The same company recently shared a statement in which it indicated that before having the services of López as a teacher, a check was carried out on her criminal past that did not show any illegal or inappropriate behavior in the past.
