A Maine judge on Tuesday sentenced the woman who hammered her boyfriend last year for allegedly being a "lazy man" to 15 months in prison.

According to The Sun Journal, prosecutors in the case showed at the hearing the large hammer with which on April 5 of last year Crystal Foss attacked her then boyfriend, Charles Bradrick, causing four injuries to the head.

Upon being transferred to the hospital, the doctors had to close those wounds with 10 staples, in addition to treating the victim for a large bruise in the rib area, as he apparently kicked him after he fell to the floor.

Lewiston local police officer Tyler Martin said Foss - who has a history of alcohol and drug abuse - had shown "very little emotion" when questioned at the scene of the attack and that he even stated that he did not care if he died and that he had been attacked as a “lazy man”.

Investigations of the case showed that at no time had Bradrick threatened Foss physically or verbally.

The defense asked the judge to consider that she suffered brain damage at birth and the history of abuse that the woman has suffered in her 34 years of life, which includes sexual assault when she was a minor. Likewise, she showed evidence that at the time of the attack she was not taking her medications.

The sentence Foss was originally facing was eight years, but the judge took into account the defendant's mental health and lack of a criminal record to reduce it to 15 months. "Mental health had everything to do with this case," said defense attorney Henry Griffin.

The attacked agreed with the reduction of the sentence. “She attacked me, but I don't blame her for that. I blame her for not taking her medications,”Bradrick said.
